Overall rating 4. Yes No Thanks for your feedback! Report as inappropriate. Riveting reading. Couldn't put it down! Bring on the sequel. Thick, twisted, very readable. Liked the book Definitely made it a task to grind through the entire second section of this otherwise interesting book. The narration is easier to follow that Wolf Hall, proving that Mantel has gotten more comfortable with the style and main character.

The plot is thick with intrigue and moves along at an exciting pace. After reading and enjoying Wolf Hall, I couldn't wait to read this sequel and it didn't disappoint. Fiction or not? This is history with a twist. Please try again later. Kindle Edition Verified download. I loved it!! The downfall of Anne Boleyn is a fascinating time in Tudor history..

I'm touched on a personal note too by her actions since my husband was taken by another woman so my sympathies lie with Katherine.. How many allegations were true and how far Cromwell and co manipulated things is up for speculation.. Mantel has presented us with a protagonist who is a cross between a guide dog and a psychotic mutt with rabies..

Complex and misunderstood in some ways he is a great man who was undeserving of the put downs because of his origins.. Not everyone's cup of tea but I love historical novels and this is written in such a way as to be properly understood.

One person found this helpful. Complicated and dense but so rich in tudorisms i couldn't put it down. If only someone had written down something about Thomas Cromwell and Anne Boleyn in such detail at the time Excell not book with a refreshing take on the Tudor period told through the eyes of Cromwell.

Once you get used to the style it is impeccable. The art of influence and counterpoint is weaved through the events and the dialogue from the principle characters is spontaneously believable. What a fantastic way to learn about Thomas Cromwell and the social fabric of the time. Mantel knows how to tell a great story and include the important historical details.

Enjoyed both Hilary Mantel books, but was a bit frustrated by the use of "he" when it wasn't always clear who "he" was. See all 19 reviews. Would you like to see more reviews about this item? Go to site. Back to top.
